RPS Model Rocket Club is Cleared for Launch
Not every rocket launch is a success. (Just ask SpaceX.) Logically, there's a fair amount of excitement when one takes off and lands without issue.
After a month of building and testing, the Model Rocket Club launched its first rocket of the school year just before we headed to Thanksgiving break. Students from the freshman, sophomore, and junior classes worked each week in the Maker Space, breaking into small groups to build different parts of the rocket before putting everything together. The final meeting was devoted to checking each piece, reviewing safety, and making sure the rocket was ready.
The club is advised by Mrs. Conroy and led by Club President Andrzej Niknam ’27 and Vice President Ian Chang ’27. The club members, and the crowd of onlookers the launch attracted to the Lower Grass Field, were reasonably excited with the result.
Andrzej summed up the moment: “While I am in my own right happy to see a rocket that I helped to build fly, I’m happier to see that everyone else gets to share that feeling as a club, knowing they all made that happen.”
Share that feeling as well with the photos below.
