
Girls Basketball

Team Philosophy
The Rutgers Prep girls basketball team competes at the varsity and junior varsity levels. All teams compete in the NJSIAA, Somerset County, and Skyland Conference against top-level competition. The team also competes in many showcases up and down the East Coast.
The varsity team has a proud tradition of excellence, including three NJSIAA State Championships, five NJSIAA Non-Public B Sectional Championships, 11 NJISAA (Prep) State Championships, 10 Somerset County Championships, and nine Skyland Conference Championships.
Coached by Mary Klinger, who not only played Division I basketball at Rutgers University, where she was a member of the 1982 AIAW National Championship team, she also has earned nearly every coaching honor imaginable, including the NFHS National Coach of the Year, the NFHS Sectional Coach of the Year, The John Wooden Legacy Award, the Jordan Brand Classic Coach, the McDonald’s HS All American East Coast, the USA U-16-17 National Team assistant coach gold medal winner of the FIBA North America Championship, the FIBA World Championship gold medal team assistant coach, as well as numerous Star Ledger, Courier News and Central Jersey Sports radio Coach of the Year awards.
Coach Klinger emphasizes fair play and teamwork. Her passion and love of the game can be seen at all levels and the success of her teams over her 40+ years are a testimony to this.
